Obey Your Thirst

I haven't taken an English class since I was in high school, but when I did have to take them, I made the most of the situation by not taking it seriously. I always tried to find ways to turn corny assignments into demonstrations of my quirky, hilarious creativity. If it meant making everyone laugh, I'd have easily taken a B over an A.
While trying to clean up my bedroom just now, I found a ratty sheet of notebook paper. It was an assignment for one of those classes. We had to write a sonnet. I'm sure you're familiar with those, but in case you forgot, it's a poem with a very strict structure (14 lines, iambic pentameter, specific rhyme scheme).
Apparently, I decided to write mine as a dedication to Sprite (yes, the soft drink). Reading it made me laugh and brought back some memories so I thought I'd share it. Pay attention to the rhyme scheme!
Sonnet A: Obey Your Thirst
How many of your praises shall I sing?
You are a mixture of good taste and flair
And with none other can you be compared
For all the great refreshment that you bring.
Your potency at first will sometimes sting
Your mouth fills mine with flavor that is rare
A fountain of delight will fill the air
When you and I exchange our first greeting.
And yet, you often cause me such dismay
Your presence disappears quite suddenly
And I am faced with slaving to the rack
Deciding how to visit you each day
Just like a drug I yearn for you daily
But this time I might purchase a six pack.
Thank you for reading!
