When I was 15 and taking driver's ed, one of the kids that was lucky enough to share that misery with me was this guy who was cool and pretty funny, but he was definitely not-so-bright, so a lot of the time he was funny in that blissfully ignorant way where the rest of us were secretly laughing at him and not just with him.

To give an example of the kind of goofy stuff he would do, one time he interrupted the monotone driving instructor and said "I'm a good driver." When the instructor said "no, you're not," he responded with "DON'T TALK TO ME LIKE A CHILD, I PLAYED HAMLET AT CAMBRIDGE!" (a reference to this popular commercial of the era) This outburst was not met with the laughter that he probably thought it would get, but instead really awkward silence, which made it that much funnier for the rest of us after we got over that feeling of being really embarrassed for him. Luckily for him, I don't think he was cognizant enough to notice or care that his attempt at a joke fell flat.

Anyway, one time during a break he was talking about some space documentary he saw.
Interested, I asked him "Where'd you see it?"

"The sky-fi channel."

The rest of us were pretty sure what he was trying to say, but we just had to make sure.

"What channel?"

"You know, the sky-fi channel, the one with all the space shows and stuff."

We all had to choke back laughter. (In case you're just as slow as he was, he was trying to say "sci-fi" channel.)

Someone asked him, "Do you know what sky-fi stands for?"

"Shoot, I don't know!"

Someone else let him know.

"I think it stands for sky-ence fiction."
